Sewing Infographics
As part of my interest in re-exploring tactile methods of design research, I was inspired to use a traditional craft medium to chart the loss of craft in a post-industrial age. This infographic piece maps out the gradual loss of sewing as a domestic tradition within three generations of my (very large) family since the emigration of my maternal grandparents from Southern China to Mauritius. Different colored threads mark the generation and ability to sew, while circular patterns (red signifying our ancestral home village) represent urban areas on five continents.
